Help with SAS drives.

I am having some issues with some SAS drives I received from BitDeals. And I admit it could entirely be my fault. But I’m hoping you can help me out

I received 3 8TB HGST SAS drives and I am connecting these drives to a LSI SAS 9210-8i 8-port 6Gb/s PCIe HBA RAID SATA Controller flashed to IT mode. I have 4 SATA drives connected to the controller and it works fine. But when I connect the SAS drives they do not show up in the cards configuration utility during boot. I even removed the 4 SATA drives and have just a single 8TB SAS drive connected to the card thinking maybe I could not mix and match but still nothing shows up. In fact when I feel the drives it does not feel like they are spinning up or receiving power. Again, am I doing something wrong? Or Maybe they are just not compatible? I honestly do not know

My System specs:

M/B: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z68A-D3H-B3 Version x.x - s/n:
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. Version F11. Dated: 10/12/2011
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7-2600K CPU @ 3500 MHz

I am running Unraid on my server and am using this cable to connect the drive to the controller:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Likely the 3.3v power.

You’ll need to power the drives using Molex to SATA adapters, or one of the methods described here:

That was exactly it. Pulled the 5th wire from the cable and it works perfectly now. I just didn’t know what to search for. Thank you for answering my question.

Well I learned something today I didn’t know some SAS drives had that 3.3v “issue”

Yes I was aware of it in sata drives. Didn’t know it applied to sas too. Or maybe I just misread the original post

You probably read correct, but the article I linked just explains it better than I could.

Basically SAS drives are SATA drives as far as power is concerned.
